Bridging Stewardship and Commercialization – Jewish Heritage in Kazimierz

The Taube Center, the Galicia Jewish Museum, and the Institute of Jewish Studies at Jagiellonian University will host a conference exploring the preservation, management, and promotion of Jewish heritage in Kazimierz amid growing tourism and commercialization.

On June 29, 2026, the Taube Center for Jewish Life & Learning, in partnership with the Galicia Jewish Museum and the Institute of Jewish Studies at Jagiellonian University, will host the conference Bridging Stewardship and Commercialization: Jewish Heritage in Kazimierz.

Taking place at the Galicia Jewish Museum in Kraków, the conference will bring together scholars, educators, cultural practitioners, conservation specialists, tourism professionals, and community leaders to discuss the preservation, management, and promotion of Jewish heritage in Kazimierz—one of Europe’s most visited historic Jewish districts.

As interest in Jewish heritage tourism continues to grow, the conference will explore both the opportunities and challenges associated with increasing commercialization. Participants will examine questions of authenticity, stewardship, public engagement, heritage interpretation, and sustainable cultural tourism, with a particular focus on the unique historical and contemporary context of Kraków’s former Jewish quarter.

The event aims to create a space for dialogue among stakeholders working in heritage preservation, education, culture, academia, and public institutions, encouraging the exchange of experiences and best practices.

We look forward to welcoming participants to Kraków for this important conversation on the future of Jewish heritage in one of Europe’s most significant historic Jewish districts.

Registration is now open.

The conference is organized within the framework of the Rescue Memory – Activism, Arts, and Public Remembrance (ReActMem) project, funded by the European Union through the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) programme.
