Workers Circle Journey Through Lithuania and Poland

In May, the Taube Center welcomed participants from the Workers Circle for a ten-day educational journey through Lithuania and Poland, exploring Jewish history, Yiddish culture, sites of memory, and contemporary Jewish life.

The program offered participants an opportunity to engage with more than a thousand years of Jewish history while exploring the region’s diverse cultural traditions, historical experiences, and contemporary Jewish life. Through site visits, conversations with local experts, meetings with community members, and encounters with places of memory, participants gained a deeper understanding of the interconnected histories of Lithuania and Poland and the rich legacies of Litvak and Galitzianer Jewish communities.

The journey combined historical learning with opportunities to explore the roots of the Bund, Yiddish culture, and other aspects of Jewish life in Eastern Europe. Along the way, participants reflected on questions of memory, identity, continuity, and the ongoing revival of Jewish life in the region.

The group was joined by local guides, educators, scholars, and special guests, including Professor Dovid Katz in Lithuania, scholar-in-residence Dr. Tomasz Cebulski, and Rev. Mark Thompson, political and human rights activist.

We are grateful to the Workers Circle for their partnership and to all those who contributed their expertise, perspectives, and hospitality throughout the journey.
