Five days of immersive learning with senior students from Atlanta, exploring Jewish history, memory, and contemporary life.
Our January visit with over 20 senior students from The Weber School in Atlanta, led by Dr. Rachel Rothstein, has come to an end. This year, we spent five intensive and meaningful days together in Poland, engaging in study, reflection, and encounter.
In partnership with the Taube Center for Jewish Life & Learning, The Weber School offers annual immersive educational tours of Poland focused on Jewish history, Holocaust education, and contemporary Jewish life. While these programs often span longer periods, this year’s visit was a condensed yet powerful experience, bringing together historical learning and present-day perspectives.
During their time in Poland, the students took part in:
- A guided visit to the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews
- Walking through the area of the former Warsaw Ghetto
- A study tour of Auschwitz-Birkenau
- Meetings with members of today’s Jewish community, including JCC Krakow
- Hands-on cultural experiences, such as a pierogi workshop
This visit was part of a broader educational partnership that includes flagship programs such as the Abe Besser Senior Israel–Poland Experience—a capstone program for seniors developed with Ramah Israel and the Taube Center—as well as N’siyah Ashkenaz for juniors. Together, these initiatives combine the study of pre-war Jewish life, the Holocaust, and the rebuilding of Jewish life in post-war Poland.
We thank the students and educators for their curiosity, openness, and thoughtful engagement, and we look forward to welcoming future groups to Poland.
