Between July 8–12, the Taube Center Foundation held an intensive MDLDE training for Jewish heritage practitioners from across Europe. Following our sessions in Barcelona, we hosted the second phase of a three-part preparatory course for trainers in Warsaw. We delved into educational theory with Avy Leghziel, an experienced organizational consultant and trainer, exploring how these concepts can be applied in guiding and teaching. Helise Lieberman, and Marta Eichelberger–Jankowska, the Taube Center’s Executive Director and Head of Education respectively, along with educators from the POLIN Museum, and Dr. Natalia Romik, curator of the “(post)JEWISH… Shtetl Opatów Through the Eyes of Mayer Kirshenblatt” exhibition, provided valuable examples. We tackled questions such as: – How can we help audiences explore Jewish heritage and culture through guided observation of a painting? – What can be learned from careful examination of an object? – How can we facilitate challenging discussions about the histories and contemporary realities of European minorities? In the latter part of the week, participants presented their MDLDE-inspired project ideas and plans for local editions set to take place in Spain, Italy, Greece, Germany, France, and Poland. Mi Dor Le Dor Europe, funded by a grant from the European Commission, is a cooperative project organized by the AEPJ in partnership with the Taube Center for Jewish Life & Learning Foundation, Centropa, and the Jewish Heritage Network. The adventure continues in September in Berlin. Stay tuned! Mi Dor Le Dor (Heb. from generation to generation) is a unique educational program, custom-designed by the Taube Center in 2012 to teach young people in Poland about Polish Jewish history. The initiative aims to strengthen their understanding of the importance and impact of personal, communal, and national heritage. After successful implementations in Poland between 2012 and 2016, the program launched in Italy in June 2021 through a partnership between the Taube Center, the European Association for the Preservation and Promotion of Jewish Culture and Heritage and the Italian Union of Jewish Communities. The Italian program is adapted to the needs and goals of the Italian-Jewish community. For more information on the program, please contact: Marta Eichelberger–Jankowska at mjankowska@taubecenter.org
