Today we mark 82 years since the outbreak of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, the largest act of armed Jewish resistance during World War II and a defining moment in the history of the Holocaust.
On April 19, 1943, the eve of Passover, German forces entered the Warsaw Ghetto to carry out its final liquidation. In response, Jewish fighters — many of them young men and women — launched a desperate and courageous struggle against overwhelming odds.
Poorly armed and outnumbered, the fighters held out for nearly a month. Their resistance was not a battle they expected to win militarily, but a stand for dignity, humanity, and the right to exist in the face of annihilation.
The uprising became a symbol of defiance and hope. It reverberated far beyond the walls of the ghetto and continues to resonate as one of the most powerful acts of resistance in modern history.
As we remember the individuals who rose up, we also honor those who preserved memory through testimony, and those who continue to teach and learn this history today.

Dziś przypada 82. rocznica wybuchu Powstania w Getcie Warszawskim — największego zbrojnego zrywu Żydów podczas II wojny światowej i jednego z najbardziej symbolicznych aktów oporu wobec Zagłady.
19 kwietnia 1943 roku, w przeddzień święta Pesach, wojska niemieckie wkroczyły do getta warszawskiego z zamiarem jego ostatecznej likwidacji. W odpowiedzi żydowscy bojownicy — w większości bardzo młodzi ludzie — podjęli nierówną, ale odważną walkę.
Słabo uzbrojeni i pozbawieni realnych szans na zwycięstwo, bronili się przez prawie miesiąc. Ich opór był nie tyle walką o przetrwanie, ile aktem godności i człowieczeństwa wobec nieuchronnej śmierci.
Powstanie stało się symbolem odwagi, determinacji i nadziei. Jego echo rozbrzmiewa do dziś jako jeden z najbardziej przejmujących aktów sprzeciwu wobec ludobójstwa w historii.
Pamiętając o tych, którzy podjęli walkę, oddajemy też hołd tym, którzy zachowali ich świadectwo — oraz tym, którzy dziś uczą się i uczą innych tej historii.
